So my car wouldn't start last Thursday. A quick mobile search found me these guys, so I had State Farm tow my car to the shop. Johns figured out the problem the same day and I was able to pick it up when I got back into town. All in all it only set me back about $200 and they even spent time troubleshooting a couple other engine codes my car was giving off. Highly recommend.

John's automotive care not only provides the best in auto repair, but the customer service is the best you could ask for. The front office staff knows you by name. They are extremely friendly and conversational. The office is inviting, including coffee, water, snacks and comfortable seating for those longer wait times. The service charges are comparable, but when you add in the level of customer services nothing beats their service.

I don't like to write review for the places that I've only been to once or twice. In the past few months I have been to John's Automotive for four times because I drive a lot. I've been there for oil change twice there, and they have always been friendly to me, and the price is reasonable with a good quality compare with my volkswagen dealership. They have been very honest with me. They tell me what kind of oil and how many of them should I get if I want to get my own ones or go to another auto shop. I haven't done any serious car fixing problem there, but I think I'll trust them if there's future problems with my car if I'm not moving out of San Diego.

Great Service! My car needed many repairs and I had a limited budget. They were able to do an inspection and let me know what was the highest priority for the health of my vehicle and my safety so repairs could be made as I could afford them. My car was not drivable when I took it in, and they were able to refer me to get a rental at a decent cost and made the whole process easy. The rental company picked me up and dropped me off at John's Automotive Care and I didn't have to take any time off work to take care of anything. The facility is super clean and child friendly. All of the staff were kind and honest and showed me the actual parts that were cracked. I brought in a dirty car, with no breaks, with several different noises and issues and drove out a noise free, safe, and super clean vehicle. And best of all, the driver door which had been broken for over 6 months was fixed! I am so grateful I was referred to this wonderful business.

These guys are the best! They are so honest and friendly. My car was done exactly when they said it would be and while I waited I got to enjoy internet and food. I highly recommend John's Automotive Care!

Long story short: this is a wonderful shop run by trustworthy mechanics. Long story: A couple months ago, I noticed the rear axle on my Jeep was floating about. Very dangerous. I called AAA for a tow and they recommended I take it to John's Automotive since it was the closest shop. After getting there, they told me they would take a look at it and get my Jeep back to me as soon as possible. The first thing that struck me was how friendly and personable the staff were. Throughout the repair process, they kept constant contact with me. They called me before they did anything and kept me informed every step of the way. They even found another issue, told me about it, and asked me if I wanted to have it fixed (most mechanics would do it and charge you anyway!). My Jeep was up and running again in no time. Then, recently, I noticed the same problem again. I took it back to John's Automotive to see what the deal was. After further inspection, they discovered that their original repair was inadequate and they should have done it differently. Instead of making excuses, they took responsibility for the mistake, communicated with all the specialty shops required, and made sure they got the job done right. For free. Even when I offered to pay for the work and time, they declined, citing that it should have been done right the first time and it was a learning experience for their shop (apparently this was the first time they've seen that specific issue). Talk about customer service. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone, and I do. This shop was originally just a random recommendation from AAA but it is now who I will be calling ANY time I have an issue with ANY of my vehicles. These guys understand that their customers just want good, honest service -- and they deliver.

WHY do I even have to give them a star? HO-RRI-BLE! Horrible costumer service. It took them 5 days to do.... absolutely NOTHING to my car. I went in on a Monday afternoon to have them replace my oil dip stick funnel so I could get an oil change ASAP as it broke and started to leak and was pretty much running on fumes. I had to wait for like half hour to get some sort of "I will be right with you." After talking to the guy behind the counter, he started looking at their inventory for like another 30 mins to find out they didnt have the part I needed. So here's what happened: Monday: He told me to come back around 5. I did but they didn't have it. They told me to come back the next day at 8am. Tuesday: I did. They didn't have it (again). They said "oh I don't know what happened, I ordered it yesterday. Come back tomorrow in the morning." Wednesday: I didn't. I called instead. They said "Oh I don't know what happened, I ordered it yesterday (really? I thought you ordered it Monday?). Come back tomorrow in the morning." At this point I'm thinking, dang, it must be a really hard piece to find. Hmm... Thursday: I didn't go. I skipped a day to give them MORE time to "get" the stupid $10 dollar part. Friday: I showed up ready to finally get my Oh!-so-longed-for dip stick. The same guy pretended to look up my info in the computer and told me "it should be here, I ordered it" and went to the other room to "go find" my part. He comes back empty handed and said, again "I dont know what happened, it should be here, I ordered it the other day, come back at 5, this time I should have it" ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!? At this point I had lost faith in them (when I should have lost it the very first day, stupid me). I just went down the street to Midas (should have done so on Monday). They didnt have the part either but they said they could get it delivered in 20 mins so they took my car in. Half hour to an hour later, my car had a new dip stick and its oil changed. And it's not like I was the only one with a car getting service in there. 5pm: John's Automotive Care had lost a costumer. Comment from John E. of John's Automotive Care Business Owner 8/22/2012Thank you for responding back to my email. I was happy to hear that this happened two years ago and not recently. As I explained to you I had some other negative feedback about my service advisor around that same time so I wasted little time in finding a more than suitable replacement for him. Negative feedback is never good but I feel it is important to get so that I can continue to give the GREAT customer service that I feel my customers deserve. I am very sorry that your expectations and mine were not met at that time that you were in. I do hope you give us another chance to fulfill your customer service expectations so you can write us a review that will truly reflect how we treat our customers on a daily basis. Read more

I've used John's for many years now. Just recently I was able to take advantage of their 36-month guarantee. Had them replace a starter in January but after 2 months the new starter went bad. John's replaced it at no cost. I usually make an appointment but this time I took it to them first thing in the morning and they were able to fit me into their schedule. Thanks, John, and thanks, Brian! Been going to John's since he bought the business years ago. Found out that a number of my neighbors also go to him. John's very thorough and wants to do the job right. Took my car in for a minor repair and he spent time road testing it with his mechanic and told me that it really didn't need to be fixed. Didn't charge me for his time or try to do a repair that I didn't need. I'll go back again. Read more

I was very impressed with the service I received at John's Automotive. Everything was done over the phone and Bryan (the one that I talked to the most) was more than helpful. He made sure I knew everything that was going on through the whole process and he went through the costs of each thing I would be paying for. I had the car at the shop when it opened and it was done before the work day was over; quickest service I've ever seen. Another thing they were great about was allowing my friend to pay over the phone because he was out of state at the time and all I had to do was walk in, get the keys and I was good to go. I'm not from San Diego and I was super cautious about who I had work on the car but I trust John's Automotive completely and I would definitely recommended. As a girl that knows nothing about cars, it was a relief to know I wasn't getting tricked into getting a bunch of unnecessary fixes.
